Meet Chef Jose Luis

Unique flavors, sensational food pairings, and locally-grown ingredients. These are the essential components that drive Chef Jose Luis to create the mouth-watering dishes you’ll experience at El Cielo. Originally from Veracruz, Mexico, Luis’ passion for food started at a young age, growing up as a part of a working-class, immigrant family in Southern California. Struggling with money, every meal was a blessing, making every neighborhood get-together highly treasured as this is where the family could discover the food and flavors from different cultures. After graduating from Mérida Culinary School, Luis’ journey has taken him to Spain and France, working with people like Don Roberto Hernández – the owner of Banamex and Cirque du Soleil. Back in Mexico, he was taken under the wing of Chef Roberto Solis of Néctar restaurant, where he trained for three years prior to being sent to NOMA and AMAS to perfect his craft. Bursting with experience and new ideas, Chef Luis returned to Mexico, taking positions at Pujol, Quintonil and Rossette. Since 2016, Chef Luis has been a part of the Karisma family as the creative Chef at El Dorado Royale. He is commencing his new journey under the bright stars of El Cielo Winery and Resort.
